Uni-ball and Uni are brands of pens and pencils, made by the Mitsubishi Pencil Company Limited of Japan. Mitsubishi Pencil Company distributes products in over 100 countries through subsidiaries. Despite its naming and the near identical logo marks, Mitsubishi Pencil Company is unrelated to the Mitsubishi Group, and has never been a part of their keiretsu.

In 1887, Niroku Masaki founded a small company in Tokyo making writing tools, this soon became the Uni Mitsubishi Pencil Company. Fast forward to 1979 when the first uni-ball rollerball was created. Its excellent quality and fantastic writing finish made it an instant success. Building on this, uni-ball Eye rollerball was developed and launched in 1994 and is still one of the world’s most popular rollerballs. Why?
