The Kokuyo Hakoake 2-way scissors are 2-in-1 scissors. You can use it as normal scissors as well as a cutter. The most innovative and handy design of this tool is its cutter component for box opening purpose. Squeeze the two handles together while pushing the slider button on the side of the handle forward. It then exposes the tip of the top scissor blade. The exposed blade tip protrudes approximately 1mm. This is just deep enough to cutter the tape without potential damaging anything inside. The smaller ridges on the blades makes it resist to sticky material cutting such as tapes, as it means less stick material will ever touch the blade. Also, the special treated blade surface also prevents sticky material to adhere to the blades.
